(FÖJ)Voluntary Ecological Year
Those wishing to take a look around in the job world after finishing school or those who would like to become involved in environmental protection will find the Voluntary Ecological Year an ideal choice. This option is an educational and orientation year for young people between 16 and 27 years of age and the employment locations are scattered throughout Germany. The Voluntary Ecological Year in Berchtesgaden National Park is organized and supported by the JBN (Trägerverband Jugendorganisation Bund Naturschutz). Salary: 180 Euro pocket money plus room and board.

Description of duties:
Duties are mainly concentrated in the area of environmental education. This includes animating kids’ groups, guiding school classes and kindergarten groups through the National Park, as well as manning National Park information points. In winter the trainee must accompany a National Park ranger to the climate stations on backcountry skis. In addition, various projects may be worked on, such as the creation of new game material in conjunction with environmental education, measuring ground coordinates via GPS or assisting researchers with their work. Posting mail and entering data are also part of the job.
Requirements:
Candidate must possess team spirit, should enjoy working with children and teenagers and, ideally, should already have experience in youth education. He / she should enjoy being outdoors, be physically fit and have experience with backcountry skiing (randonnée) so as to be able to accompany the rangers in winter (it is sufficient if only one trainee has randonnée qualifications).
